| OCSupertones's Full Review: Rockford Fosgate RFZ1412 Car Speaker |
Welcome to the wonderful world of Rockford Fosgate. In this world you get over-rated subwoofers, and under-rated amplifiers. But since this epinion is about the RFZ1412, we'll discuss that. Let's start with the manufacture specifications.
Specifications:
RMS -- 100 watts
Peak Power -- 200 watts
Lowest Freq. -- 28hz
Those are the most important features, especially when dealing with Rockford Fosgate.
100 watts in the world of car audio, is like having a 3-cylinder engine, it doesn't matter what kind of car you put it in, it still remains powerless.
A majority of car decks can put or more power than 100 watts RMS (RMS means continuos power handling). You might try to argue that
"Power handling isn't important, it matters how loud it gets."
Here is the engine analogy to that statement:
"It doesn't matter if your car has 3 cylinders, it matters what kind of car you put it in."
200 watts peak is hardly anything. Most subwoofer RMS power is higher that 200 watts peak.
28hz isn't that bad for a Frequency Drop Off. Most subs can hit in the 20hz and up range, so in that category the RFZ1412 goes pretty low.
If you're looking for a decent beginner sub, this could be the one for you. You won't need to spend very much money on an amp, and you wont need too big of a box, but I would never recommend a sub of low quality, so be fore-warned.
As always, if you have any questions about this epinion, you can contact me and I'll clarify any questions.
