We have several phones in this apartment. This one is in our kitchen. Why did this one end up in the kitchen you ask? For one, it has built in caller id. Secondly, it has the paging locater so we can find the stupid thing if we misplace it. For another, it lasts a long time off the battery. Also, we can take it down to the pool with us and it will still work.
Now, for those of you who haven't had a 900mhz spread spectrum phone, you may be saying to yourself, "How can it last for such a long time and go for such a long distance?"
First, there was just plane analog. The old cordless phones were glorified walkie-talkies practically. Any person with a radio scanner could listen in on the conversation you were having. Plus, the range was pretty poor. A person could barely walk across the house before the signal was getting all fuzzy and noisy. And battery life was very limited.
Then came 900mhz. The idea was that it would help stop eaves droppers and battery life would last longer. Well, the latter happened, but you could still do the former if you had good equipment. Your range from the base station did get greater, too.
Then came 900mhz spread spectrum. Your ability roam with the phone got much better. Plus, due to the technology, eaves dropping is almost impossible. It's a big improvement.
I would recommend this phone to anyone who is in the market for a good quality cordless phone. It is very handy to have around the place. It's durable. My wife dropped ours off the balcony and it still works fine. Just barely a scratch to tell what happened to it.
The only thing I don't like is that we have 3 local area codes and the caller id feature only supports two local area codes.
