The Nikon 28-200 F3.5/5.6 IF AF is quite simply an amazing lens. The optical quality is outstanding, producing pictures to a standard I have never known! When used in conjunction with my Nikon F3 it is almost too good for words.
>As I said it is optically superb, but it is also very light. The weight of the lens does not drag down the front of the camera, as the lens on my other camera does. The smoothness of the zoom and focus rings is wonderful, light but firm. These qualities were very much appreciated on a recent trip to southern Greece in the autumn. The lens's ease of use made the process of photographing a joy, making the rest of the holiday so much more pleasurable. The pictures came back and they certainly did not disappoint. Every picture is a joy to look at.
>This lens cost more than other lenses of the telephoto zoom category but I think it is worth it considering it's achievements.
>However, nothing is perfect in this world. One complaint is that it requires large and quite expensive 72mm filters to go on the front. The other is the slight difficulty operating the aperture ring. It is not firm enough to rotate smoothly and can be stiff when trying to switch aperture making you go past the desired aperture setting, if you want to select f.11 then the ring can slip and go to f.16. However it is still an amazing lens worth of anyone's money!
NOTE:autofocus will not work on manual focus camera bodies.
