Pros: Size-this camera fits like a glove
Cons: The mic picks up the noisy motor which is obtrusive; poor in low lighting.
The Bottom Line: As much as I wanted to keep this camera, it clearly was unacceptable due to its noisy motor, poor performance under low light conditions, and lack of effects.

| piercemurphy's Full Review: Canon Elura 2 Mini DV Camcorder |
I purchased Canon Elura MC20 and the JVC GR-DVM75 with the intent that I would keep the Canon because its ergonomics are the best I have seen. It truly fits like a glove in your hand which is its best attribute.
Outside it performs very well with high quality video. For a camera in this price range you would expect no less. Inside is another story. In low light conditions it becomes useless because it has no "Night Alive" type feature like the JVC or Sony cameras. That was its first strike.
The second critical area that differentiates these cameras is the sound quality. The microphone on the Canon picks up the whining noise of the camera’s motor, creating an irritating noise that infiltrates your video. After a while that was all I could hear on the video. I recorded with the JVC under the same inside conditions and heard no motor noise. That alone would be enough to take the Canon back.
The last area to note would be the additional effects and features. The Canon compared to the JVC simply did not have near the amount of effects. For some people that may be a plus because it keeps the menus simple (there's not much there). For me though, if I am going to spend a $1,000 on a camera, I expect it to be packed with features. The JVC met that expectation.
After two weeks of testing both cameras, I took the Canon back and kept the JVC GR-DVM75. I wanted so much to keep the Elura because it fits so nicely in my hand, but its shortcomings made the decision an obvious one.
If you are set on this camera, I purchased it at Costco for $979, and it came with an extra 4 hour battery, case, DV tape and a $100 rebate. You can see why I was so frustrated that I could not keep this camera with the incredible deal they were offering on it.
