NateK53's Full Review: Sony Handycam DCR-TRV11 Mini DV Camcorder
I don't actually own this camcorder. I was in need of one for a project, and borrowed this from a friend to use for two weeks. Over that time, I ended up using the TRV11 quite a bit, and found a lot of features on it that I almost couldn't have lived without.
First of all, it is small. You can take it almost anywhere comfortably, unlike larger camcorders that you have to pack in a huge bag. This I was able to fit with its case into my backpack with all my other stuff. Another great thing about MiniDV camcorders is that you can connect them to a computer through Firewire (also know as Ilink or 1394), and send the video without any loss of quality. This allows you to edit the footage on the computer, in a user friendly enviorment. Now, almost anyone with basic computer skills can edit video.
There are two things that I find disconcerting about this camcorder. The first is the battery life. I was only given one battery when I borrowed this from my friend, which was a pain, because with an already short battery life I was always recharging when I wanted to be shooting. The other thing that I didn't personally have a problem with, but I'm sure you will, is the price. With prices up in the $15,000 range, this cam will take a big chunk out of your wallet. I also find it hard to justify spending this much money on the TRV11, when there are many equivalent models made by JVC and Pannisonic for almost half the price. I would look into other options before dropping money on this cam.
Overall, I would suggest that you look around, and if you can't find anything else, or have some kind of attachment to Sony or the TRV11, then get it. Otherwise, get the cheaper model.
