Why DVDs?
Many people wonder: What's wrong with VCRs? What's so special about DVDs? Would I notice the sound and picture difference?
Although slightly more pricey DVDs are definitely the way to go. They hold 5 gigabytes of information, so they can hold a very long movie plus special features such as Behind the Scenes and Director's Commentary
These special features alone are enough to get a DVD player, but there are many more reasons. The picture clarity on DVDs is incredible. Also, many DVDs have the option of widescreen or regular. I like watching widescreen because it is just like the movies. Regular is what Video Cassettes use and is a little distorted.
The sound on DVDs is also great. It is just like being in the theaters. If your wallet allows it, I would get surround speakers.
The Sony DVP-S360
I got this mainly because of its price and because it was made by Sony. All the other electronics I have that are made by Sony work great so I figured this would be no exception.
Setup
The setup was very simple. All I had to do was plug the power cord in. Then I just plugged the three-ended, colored wire into the colored holes on the DVD Player labeled Audio Out R, Audio Out L, and Video. The other end goes into the TV. The setup is the same as the setup of a VCR.
Features
The Sony DVP-S360 will play DVDs, CDs, and Video CDs. This isn't that amazing since most will play these. This wasn't important to me because I play CDs on a Stereo and I don't even have any Video Cds.
Custom Parental Control allows you to block DVDs using a four number password. This makes it so that certain DVDs will only play if you enter the password beforehand.
The remote allows you to control pretty much every function of your DVD player from the comfort of your couch. You can even program the remote to control the TV using a special two number manufacturer code found in the owner's manual.
2X Scan and Fast Forward allow you to move through the DVD quickly. The 2X Scan is very smooth but the Fast Forward is fairly jumpy.
This DVD is a great buy and I would highly recommend it to people who are buying their first DVD Player. It is also good for anyone looking for an inexpensive DVD Player with many great features.
