*** SEE INFO AT END OF REVIEW ADDED 11/15 *** CUSTOMER SERVICE 2nd TO NONE!!!
I dropped the camera last week and it has been working intermittently. Yesterday it died and expecting the worst I went to www.agfahome.com and got a tech number. They picked up in 5 minutes, did some troubleshooting w/ me and told me they would send out A NEW CAMERA, I should put the old one in the box and send it back!!! Camera was purchased on 5/12/99. All I had to do was fax the bill of sale over to the rep! This is why I am uping Agfa's rating. I am VERY impressed!
We purchased this camera for 2 reasons, to post pix on eBay and general use such as vacations, etc. The quality and ease of use exceeded our expectations as does the software included (Agfa PhotoVista). Has digital 3:1 Zoom. Plenty of flexibility in controlling the options (flash, resolution) and the controls are so simple your mother can use it in minutes if not seconds. Connects to PC with ease. AC adapter works great. There is NO advantage to the Sony system of using a floppy which is ludicrous as I us e-mail to send photos and would rather connect camera to my PC via on plug included. This system is much better and I can make a floppy in a second if I want. Ability to manipulate/delete photos in thumbnail (9 per view on LCD which is crystal clear by the way) simply. It is inconceivable we would want or need better clarity. ***We got started on eBay immediately after buying this and have done great (user ID larrys5@home.com (76). Search COMPLETED auctions under this ID for sample pix. Here is a pic: http://www.ePinions.com/images/ext/elec/429/elecAgfaePhotooAgfa_ePhoto_1680-resized.jpg
The following are drawbacks and reservations. SLOW - takes 17 seconds to recharge between shots. Also slow switching between shots. The unit EATS batteries (4/AA's) like a beast. We purchased 5 sets on NIMH AA's with recharger for home and car (cig lighter) and that solves the problem though they only last 15-30 minutes. NIMH batteries are the best bet because they hold a charge the longest. I believe all rechargable digital camera systems have these problems. I figure its cheaper to buy NIMH than with some other brands which include a custom battery at $40-60 to replace HOWEVER in hindsight if these other batteries last for 1-2 hours than they are a better bet.
Basically an awesome and impressive camera and lots of fun. I would like to upgrade to a 10:1 Zoom and a system which hold a charge for 1 hour or more...otherwise this is a great unit at a great price!
