| GOOROO's Full Review: Sharp VL-H875U Hi-8 Analog Camcorder |
I'm usually not that big of a techie geek. All I ask of the machines and devices in my life is that they work as they should. With that in mind, I bought the Sharp H875U a few months back online... got a great 50% off deal on a manufactured refurbished model. To my pleasant surprise, this camcorder has been a pure joy. Besides being a terrific camcorder, it's also a wonderful toy for the kid in all of us, packed with gee-whiz technology.
If you're like me, you've probably been impressed by the Sharp Viewcam design since first seeing Wayne Gretzky doing those commercials from a few years ago. The large color viewscreen and swivel lens is still the big drawing card. The H875 also includes a touch display which is really cool. Plus, you'll really be delighted by the stellar Hi8 clarity, 220x digital zoom, auto-focus, hi-fi stereo sound, and a long-lasting li-ion battery (over 3 hours).
It's great for capturing the important moments of your life, but it's so much fun to use, you'll find yourself recording the most mundane of things just for the excuse of playing with it. Using the included cords to playback on your television is also another added thrill.
The Sharp H875U is a mid-range priced camcorder. For the hardcore, maybe it lacks some features. I like the size, the sturdiness of it, but compared to the latest camcorders that are smaller than walkmans, this one may seem immensely bulky. Also, it lacks digital stabilization and night vision. I tried recording in a moving car on the freeway with some crummy results, and some shots that I took at dawn came out too dark.
For the average person, though, you can't go wrong with this baby. It's priced right, and the included features will more than satisfy. It's a great machine that succeeds in the most important area of all, giving a satisfying user experience. Obviously a lot of thought went into the design, and user will be able to intuitively figure out all the features without poring over the instruction manual. Buy it, turn it on, and enjoy? How much better can it get?
