| redfive10's Full Review: Sony Handycam® CCD-TRV108 Hi-8 Analog Camcord... |
I bought this product to use to record moments in my life, and was considering doing some work with Internet video. I had looked into the 3CCD model, but went with this one to save a few hundred bucks, and because of interest in the night shot feature.
The camcorder was a lot of fun when I first got it. Everyone loves a new toy. However, I was dissapointed with the quality. The picture was pretty clear, better than almost all the camcorders I have seen, but I was expecting none less. It wasn't cheap and the technology was new, so I was excited. It even comes with a memory card, so I figured I got a digital camera and camcorder all in one! Alas, the resulting picture quality on the memory sticks is no better than a cheap and junky digital camera.
Despite technological advancements, creating professional looking video still requires an investment beyond this level of camcorder. (some lighting and stability accessories are desperately needed) However, if you just want a movie of your newborn, or your kids 4th birthday party I do not see why this would do just fine.
For the foreseeable future there is still a tradeoff between living life, and being able to relive it through video.... Retinal implants anyone?
I sold my camcorder a month after buying it and got back most of my money, I think because of the Sony brand name, and popularity of this product. I have yet to purchase another camcorder.
(Drop it and this one looks like it would be a goner, lots of small parts, but that is probably true of most mini camcorders)
