| timpinions's Full Review: Pioneer CDX-P656 CD Changer |
The Pioneer CDX-P656 is a great value. You can purchase this product along with a KEH-P2800 cassette player, which will control your changer and give you an AM/FM stereo, for under $300.00. I purchased mine as a package at Wal-Mart for $250.00.
I mounted my CD-Changer under the passenger seat, which makes it difficult for a thief to see, and also allows for easier access than if you placed the changer in the trunk. If you were to purchase a 10 or 12 disc changer, there is no way that you could mount it under the seat. It would be entirely too large. Also, the KEH-P2800 has a removable face, which helps to keep thieves away.
The changer has 8x over sampling, which creates great sound and helps keep the changer from skipping. It also has "Double-Floating" anti-vibration system, which also helps keep the changer from skipping. I have previously owned a Sony CD-changer and this pioneer is virtually skip free, unlike the Sony.
The changer can be installed vertically or horizontally, depending upon your needs. The changer also loads CD's very quickly, more like a home carousel unit.
You can also program up to 100 discs with up to 24 tracks on each disc, more than most of us could possibly need. A nice added feature of the CDX-P656 is that it has CD-Text Decoding. This means that if you purchase a control unit that has text decoding capabilities, such as the KEH-P2800, and you use them in conjunction, instead of the P2800 showing you track 1, it will actually tell you the name of the song. However, this function will only work with those CD's which actually have text encoded on them and this is a newer capability so many of the discs available do not use text encoding.
The only negative thing that I have to say about this product is actually about the KEH-P2800. It is designed in such a way that it is difficult to figure out how to operate, without using the user's guide. I still have not figured out how to set the time on the unit. My wife got into the car and could not figure out how to play the radio, without pushing buttons randomly.
Over all though, these two units combined are a great value, give you terrific sound, and will keep your discs running smooth and skip free for countless hours.
