| Acarian's Full Review: JVC KW-XC550 Car CD / Cassette Player |
Just why did I have to end up buying this CD player? Well, I honestly cannot anser that question. What I do know was the appearance was quite appealing to me, and the remote was something I had never seen before in a CD Player for a car. This is what lured me into buying JVC KW-XC550 Car CD Player.
Whatever you do, do not let the looks of this CD Player take over your decision making skills. This JVC CD Player has definantly been designed nice in the factor of overall design it does easily pass.
Features
-Tuner/CD Player
-Built in clock
-Remote
-All basic features of flipping to songs on CD and controlling volume can be accessed directly on the CD Player panel or on the remote.
-Attractive
-Very clear pixel screen.
What was the need for the remote?
Seriously, it is a very nice feature in a car stereo. What I am wondering is why they included it in this particular car CD Player. There is practically no real use for it. Think about it though, when you are driving are you most likely going to go hunt around for a remote to change a song on a CD or just tap the control panel? I also think having a remote adds more money onto the price tag because this CD Player is nothing but cheap. So we could of really gone without the mini-remote that probably would be lost in a few days. It might also of added an additional $100.00.+ onto the cost of the CD Player. So what is really the use? I would of rather paid a lot less money. Developing remotes for car CD Players is new, and anything but new to us. Therefore, the prices are going to be high, and still the remote has no real use and lacks functionality overall.
Sound Output
The Sound Output on the JVC KW-XC550 was very good. For the time I did use it I never really experienced any major problems. So the majority of the time I got to listen to nice and clear sounding music. On a few rare occasions I did take note of some fuzziness of the CD and it did occasionally skip if my car went over bumps. I am still not quite sure it if this is normal or not, but that probably was one of my reasons of deciding it was time to buy a new Car CD player.
Design
It features very nice design, while some little extras like the remote we could of gone without. When I bought this particular CD Player it was the Display Screen of the JVC KW-XC550 that cault all of my attention. It displayed so well, and the screen was easy to read and all the letters were crisp clear.
Installation
This was the part I avoided. It was virtually impossible for me to install this CD Player into my car even if I wanted to. There are simply too many components that had to be attached and put together. No job I could ever handle. So I went out of the way and had it professionally installed for an extra $100.00. If you have got the training or know how to install CD Players into cars I congradulate you. It truly does save a lot of money in the long run.
Summary
Overall the JVC KW-XC550 is strong in the design overall design factor, but it does lack the essentials of functionality, reliability, and installation if you plan on installing this unit yourself it does require some skill. So I have learned looks are not everything when purchasing this CD Player. I got cault up so much in that, I did not even bother to look at the other factors involved. So in conclusion, there are better CD Players out there on the market today that will really deliver all the results you want. Maybe if the JVC KW-XC550 was priced about $200.00. cheaper I would recommend buying it, but it lacks where other CD players excel. So when deciding to purchase a Car CD Player consider all the factors and then decide which one is right for you.
