Denon AVR 3600 it a hit!

I bought the Denon AVR 3700 as an upgrade from several receivers purchased over ten years ago. Earlier this year, we purchased a DVD player to replace a CD player which finally bit the dust. The receiver didn't have input for video forcing me to link it directly into the VCR. The VCR fluctuated the luminance of the image as per copyright protection chip. Major distraction.
Spent a lot of time reading reviews and talking with friends about AV receivers. I didn't want to spend a fortune, but was interested in good sound, expansion for future gear, Dolby Digital AC-3(DD) & DTS, S-VHS and component output. The Denon AVR 3700 feel into my short list, though the price was at the high end. My partner and I have had good experience with Denon's products in the past.
I shopped around and spent time watching the Internet auction houses before making my purchase.
The AVR-3700 is a huge machine! It weighs over 40 pounds. 2 discrete amplifiers, DD and DTS, lots of inputs including optical, S-VHS & coaxial inputs. DTS seems to have been an afterthought. There is no acknowledgement visible when DTS is invoked (which is automatically invoked by monitoring software).
And it sounds beautifully! DVD images carry across beautifully, stereo sound has a nice soundstage.
Only complaint is with the remote control unit. It's a bit confusing to use, there's no backlighting for use in a dim room, and most importantly, there's not sufficient memory built into it to really retire your other remotes.
