| cbird's Full Review: Pioneer DVL-919 DVD Player |
If, like me, you prefer the qualify of LD over tape, you probably are running into the same problem people with large collections of old vinyl records ran into with the coming of CDs. Like CDs vs LPs, DVDs offer great quality and a much more compact media than LDs. Do you scrap your old collection and rebuild it in the new media or continue questing for the constantly more expensive player units and try to find room for yet another component in the electronics stack.
The DVL-919 offers an alternative that at least pushes the decision back a few years. It packages both a LD and DVD player in approximately the same box and with the same component hook-ups as a high end LD player. It is a bit deeper and taller than your standard audio/video component but compares favorably with a dual side LD player and is considerably smaller than buying a second unit just for DVDs.
This allows you to make new purchases in the DVD format and migrate those productions you want from LD to the smaller media as you find usage warrents, yet still have access to your entire old collection.
