| jacquesb's Full Review: Toshiba SD-5109 DVD Player |
I bought the SD-5109 to complement my new TW40X81 wide screen projection TV. VCR tapes are simply not adequate when using a high-quality output device such as this. Its like looking at a bad diamond through a microscope. Using the DVD is like viewing a top-notch diamond through that microscope.
I haven't had much use for the dual trays, as I don't have the patience to sit through a double-feature. The one movie I've watched that used both trays was the special edition of The Abyss, a 3-hour epic. The transition from disc to disc was seamless.
The remote control is intuitive and has backlighting for those dark home theaters. Setting up the 16:9 component video output was a bit of a challenge, but was well worth it.
One thing thing you must purchase with this player is the component video cables. In fact, in my opinion, this is the only major reason to buy this particular device over one of the cheaper ones. The component video quality is simply amazing!
