We bought the Sony SLV-679HF VCR for Christmas a few years ago to use in our family room for our 2 children. Both our kids love watching movies - including Disney, Pokemon, etc. This VCR has stood up to much use & abuse and has stood the test of time.
We have purchased many different Sony family products including this VCR, and when it came time to purchase another VCR, we naturally looked at Sony first.
This Sony 4 head VCR comes with a very attractive, easy to use universal remote. Some of the features of this VCR include, on screen programming, auto clock set, a child lock, high speed rewinding (it actually rewinds a tape in under 2 minutes!!), VCR Plus - which allows you to very easily record TV shows using codes included in most TV guides & program listings, Energy Saver Mode, Hi-Fi Recording.
We have never had any problems at all with this VCR from the time we took it out of the box & hooked it up to our TV - it has performed perfectly. The controls are very easy to read, and the on screen programming is simple enough that our 11 year old daughter caught on right away. The picture quality is excellent. It is very sharp! Combined with a quality television set - this VCR will product a top quality picture & sound!
The VCR itself seems quite durable, however I feel Sony could have used a better quality material for the VCR, as it seems a bit on the plastic side - though I realize that most VCR's are now like this (definitely not as solid as the ones that first came out years ago).
We recommend the Sony SLV-679HF VCR for anyone in the market for a VCR. This would make a great addition to a school classroom, a hospital playroom, or Church Nursery. It would also be a great gift to give someone for a birthday, anniversary, or other special holiday.
