| tlin77's Full Review: Sharp MD-MS722 Personal MiniDisc Player |
I purchased the Sharp MD-MS722 because my previous MD Player, the MD-MT15 had met its demise. However, using my MD-MS722 made me realize the shortcomings of my previous player.
For one, my MD-MT15 bought it while working out at the gym. The MD-MT15 has no kind of device that lets you keep the player on you so I had to place the player on the floor and then...CRUNCH!...it met up with a dumbbell. In any event, the MD-MS722 comes with a nice strap that at least lets you keep the player close by.
Another improvement over the MD-MT15 is that the MD-MS722 allows for a variety of power supply options. The first is a rechargeable battery. A big, big improvement on the MT15. The MS722 uses a slim rechargeable battery that gives you about 5 hours worth of playback. In addition, the MS722 also allows you to screw on an attachment that holds a single AA battery for even longer battery life.
Another improvement over the MT15 is that inclusion of the remote with the MS722. I used to like bringing the MT15 with me as I travelled and putting the player in my pocket. But if I wanted to know what track was playing or to adjust the volume, I had to take the player out. With the remote, I can place the player in my pocket, and simple clip the remote somewhere that I can see or keep the remote in my hand.
However, I think the biggest improvement over the MT15 is with the controls. The MT15 had simple enough playback and record controls. However, for typing out names of tracks for mixes, the controls left a little to be desired. Typing proved to be very cumbersome and slow. Enter the MS722 with its jog dial. The jog dial allows for quicker entry of names of tracks.
I have two drawbacks though. First, for as great a player the MS722 is, it is hard to find. The stores I checked out didn't have it. The online vendors that claimed to have it usually didn't. I had to purchase mine through ebay and let me warn you now, the bidding war for the MS722 can be fierce. A tribute to how good a player it really is, I guess. Another warning before purchasing the MS722 from an auction site, there are people out there that will list the product as brand new but in actuality, they are selling you a refurbished player.
Second, the headphones included are the same exact headphones you'd get with the MT15. They good enough to listen to but are by no means high quality headphones or convenient to store away.
In any event, those drawbacks pale in comparison to the high quality of the MS722.
