Deciding between MD and mp3 players has just got a load easier with the introduction of the MZR55PCIF. With this minidisc recorder you get what in effect is a USB sound card, specially for recording to MD.
The MD itself is great: small, light, easy to use and drop dead gorgeous. Pop in the rechargeable battery and charge for 3hours and you are ready to listen to your heart's content. Battery life with just the rechargeable battery is about 4hours (according to the manual, experience is harder to measure since I charge it up a lot), and with an extra battery pack that neatly screws onto the top about 16hours. It has dynamite features like lineout (oh dear Aiwa) Megabass, mic sensitivity and sync recording.
Sony have a reputation for high quality (costly) audio and this is no exception, not too costly though ($250). I got the Champagne gold version and it does look good, not as vivid as you might fear. The only bad things about it are the clumsy editing of track names (Aiwa AMF70 has a neat wheel) and lack of a digital out (but no other MD has one either).
Advice is to buy this great little performer, great sound and a pleasure to use.
