| benjies's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD2204 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
The RCA Lyra is an all-around great digital music player. I bought it because I wanted something that I could customize and put my own choice of music on. It plays both mp3 and RealAudio G2 format files, and is upgradable to handle future music formats. Because it has a CompactFlash memory card slot, you do not have to rely solely on internal memory, and can purchase more cards for more music space. You may purchase the Lyra with either a 32 megabyte card ($150), or a 64 megabyte card ($230). You can also buy them with a car-adapter kit. With mp3 files, about 1 megabyte = 1 minute. One good feature is the Back-lit LCD display which lets you see the artist, song title, elapsed time, volume, mode, and EQ (Bass, Rock, Pop, etc...), even in the dark. It does not skip, is crystal clear, and is one of the most stylish digital music players out there. Many people might say it's big, but I say the size is great. It's not too small like others, and the buttons are properly positioned in the perfect places. The headphones it comes with aren't perfect top-quality phones, but aren't as bad as the phones that other players come with either, they're pretty good. The battery life is also nice. I can get about 15 hours out of it, but I dont use it constantly.
The software that comes with this thing is awesome. The ease of which it is to use is unbelievable. One thing it can do is copy songs of of cd's and put them in mp3 or G2 format so you can keep them on your computer, or load them to the Lyra (or, other mp3 players). Another option, is that you can create multiple playlists for the player. For example, you can have one folder for songs, and another for comedy sound clips or something like that. You can also upload files from the player to the computer. Overall, it's a great player, at a great price. Everyone who has rated this less than 3 stars is at least a little biased.
