Pros: Finally outfitted our seaside town for HSI in '03. Must have in this area.
Cons: Expensive quasi-monopoly. Annual price increases. Poor support. Difficult to get credit for frequent outages.
The Bottom Line: Comcast needs competitors for all services.

Comcast has owned our only local cable provider for about five years, having previously been AT&T, Adelphia, and TCI. Comcast is doing some battle now to try to stop New Jersey from changing its 1980's era cable legislation. They fear Verizon and later, perhaps others will make competitive inroads on their quasi-monopoly for cable services. They deserve to lose the battle, and then the war.
Satellite with its inherent weaknesses (weather; no local) is not a good option for my geographical locale. TV stations are adequate with basic offerings, but to receive about 75 channels of a mix of NYC and Philadelphia, PBS, NJN, pro sports of both NY and Philly, and first tier cable news, entertainment and educational staples, Comcast has a vice-grip on this entire region.
Frequent outages. The drop to my house was once disconnected by a Comcast cable-guy for two days. I went nuts checking and re-checking all MY stuff, thinking it was first, my modem, my settings, then later, my wiring, etc., I phoned them to ask if there was an outage, or as I now suspected, I was mistakenly disconnected at the street. Of course, I had to wait on hold for a while, and wherever the customer service is located, THEY HAD NO RECORD OF A DISCONNECT ORDER FOR MY NEIGHBOR ACROSS THE STREET. It was a process to claim a per-diem credit which they made difficult to find and convoluted!
