I think sending in the application for my pre-approved Discover was the only good thing that ever came out of my college education. My life has never been the same, and why would I want it to be?
It was my first credit card, and I will always cherish it. Here’s why:
Finance charges - who needs ‘em? I have never been billed a finance charge of any sort.
Interest rate - who cares? Just pay your bill in full every month, and those interest rates could go through the roof and not affect you at all.
Customer service - friendly and capable. I was on vacation, getting unsure of where I was in reaching the credit limit, so I called that handy 1-800 number on the back of the card. The very nice guy on the other end of the line informed me that, oops, as soon as this last charge goes through, I will be over my credit limit. He recommended requesting a raise in my credit limit, that he would go ahead and do it for me, and to call back the next day at the same time. I did, and there I was, saved by the very people that would love to have me go over my limit. I will always be grateful to Discover.
The only con I can think of for the Discover card is that it is not accepted everywhere. I just use my college pre-approved Visa for those places.
Everyone should have a Discover card!...as long as you pay in full every month....
