| Haynesourway's Full Review: Fifth Third Bank |
I recently closed my savings account with Fifth Third bank and plan on closing my checking account also. I feel it is my responsibility to explain why. Everything was fine until I opened my checking account a few weeks ago.
I got a "Jeanie" card for the first time and I asked if it could be used at any "Jeanie" machine and was told yes. This apparently was not the case. My account was charged a fee from 5/3 and I was then told that there are some machines that are Jeanie machines but are not affiliated with 5/3.
However, the main reason I closed this account was because of the internet banking. I feel that for me, this is a must and that's why I chose to have my checking account with 5/3. I was only able to access this site for the first few days that my account was opened, then I got a message for nearly a week that the online banking part of the site was "temporarily unavailable". This was simply unacceptable.
Finally, when I decided to close my checking account with this institution I immediately called the 1-800 number and asked about the fee to close the account. I was told it would be $5.00 if it was within 90 days.
I went to the branch in which I opened the account and told her that i wanted to close my checking account and she said that there would be a $25.00 charge. I explained that I was told $5.00 and she very rudely told me that I had been misinformed. I said fine, and asked that it be brought to a zero balance. She said no..that it had to have at least a penny in it. This was absurd. Is this NOT the account that had been advertised that requires NO minimum balance? Or maybe I had been "misinformed" again?
And, to top it all off, the teller then gave a smirk and said that I could come back in 6 months and get my penny. It was then that I decided to close my savings account with 5/3 and no longer consider going through 5/3 for my upcoming mortgage loan.
I had been "misinformed" several times, treated rudely, and was not given the internet banking that I had desired. It is for these reasons that I will never hold another account with 5/3 bank and will tell my friends and family about my negative experience with 5/3.
