Pros: info by phone, banks in cub foods open longer hours, the visa cash card
Cons: express tellers are being removed from many locations, high overdraft fee
The Bottom Line: I would recommend if you live near a Cub foods, or don't frequently use the cash machine when you're out elsewhere.

I have been banking with TCF for over 20 years. I have enjoyed:
My free checking account with no minimum balance requirement.
My savings account to which I can transfer funds to and from through the automated phone service.
The convenience of banking where I shop for groceries (cub foods).
Customer Service over the phone (with a live operator), or at the individual banks is usually quite good. The tellers are friendly, and the lines move quickly.
I have not enjoyed:
The $30 per transaction overdraft fee....even if I've written a check for $2.50 that they've covered....I'm slammed with a $30.00 fee. If I happened to have written 5 checks totaling 40.00 all together....each check is slammed with a $30.00 fee. So, I'm actually paying $190.00 rather than $40.00. I'd really rather have them not pay the check in this instance.
I'm also rather annoyed with the fact that their Express teller machines are being removed from areas I used to frequent. The Holiday Gas Stations no longer have Express tellers....and a few other gas stations that I used to frequent have also removed them. TCF charges I believe $3.00 per transaction at a non-Express teller machine. This is on top of the $1.50 or $2.00 fee that the machine will charge you. So, If you want $20.00, you will actually pay about $25.00 for it. This is very inconvenient for me, and will probably be what draws me away from TCF.
With the removal of the cash machines it seems that TCF is starting to be blown out of the water by the competition. I think Wells Fargo may overtake them in the MN area eventually.
The website is not available for banking online at this time....another drawback.
