| LiTeSp3eD's Full Review: Paytrust |
I was first drawn to Paytrust after a few late bills and upon noticing their "first 3 months free" promotion. This was before Yahoo! BillPay and the like became popular, and while they might be cheaper, I have my doubts that they are as professional and dependable as Paytrust.
When you set up an account at Paytrust, they take care of notifying all your billers and arranging the address changes. You just select your billers from a list, or if they aren't listed, input the information manually.
This service is perfect for me...if I get busy with school I tend to put off chores which are time-consuming, such as running to the post office to get stamps, or dragging out the checkbook to write a few checks and go through the customary hassle of bill-paying. No matter now busy I am, I always find time to check my email, and paying bills through Paytrust isn't much more effort. You receive an email when your bill arrives at Paytrust, and you can go to the site and look over a scanned copy of your bill if you like. Paying the bill is just a matter of a few clicks, and if your biller supports electronic funds transfer, the bill is payed in a flash. If not, Paytrust prints a check from your account (you have to provide them with a voided check for this purpose), and sends it to your biller. All this for less than $8 a month is worth it to me.
If you are still too busy to deal with this, Paytrust has a solution. You can set up "rules" for all your billers. For instance, you can make a rule that if your phone bill is under $50, Paytrust will pay it automatically. If your phone bill is over $50, Paytrust will notify you so you can review the bill before payment. A very nice feature. In addition, Paytrust will remind you a week or so before a bill is due if you have not yet paid it. Another nice feature that can save you from late fees and bad credit.
If you use a program like MS Money or Quicken, you can even download data that you can import into your programs so that you don't need to input all the check numbers and amounts into the program. In addition, they keep all of your records, which you can purchase on CD-ROM if you need them. Another nice time-saver that makes it worth the money if you are sometimes a busy person or you don't like to spend a lot of your time dealing with financial matters.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, Paytrust's customer service is nothing less than excellent. They get back to you via email very quickly. The company is also concerned for your financial safety, and insures all of its customers against fraud, etc. and supplies you with a username that is more than just your email address, so that your account is much less likely to be hacked.
For the kind of person who has ever had to pay a late fee on a bill, this service will probably pay for itself in time and money. It's worth the effort to at least try out the 3 month trial. But once you experience the convenience of online bill payment, it's gonna be hard to go back to the old-fashioned way!
