| traceyd's Full Review: CompuBank |
I first learned about CompuBank.com from Clickrewards.com, a site that gives you points for shopping, thru their advertisement. (I received 100 click points for opening an account with CompuBank, plus a free debit/visa symbol card and every dollar I spend with my debit I get click points for it also). I was looking for a bank that would not CHARGE CHARGE CHARGE for every transaction that I made in order to get to MY money. In other words, I was looking for a bank that did not charge for every transaction and withdrawal.
I did a little research with smartmoney.com and found that this internet based bank rated #1 with them. So I gave it a try and am very happy that I did. Since it is an internet only bank, not a brick and mortar building, everything is done online. Except deposits, which I will discussion a little later. To open a checking or savings account you sign up online. Once you sign up they promptly send you the paper work and you mail in $100/checking and/or $100/savings. They sent me 150 free checks with a few different designs to sample so when I re-ordered I could decide which I wanted.
The things that I love most about this online bank, is that everything is done in real time. If I use my debit card in the ATM when I get home and go online to see the deduction, the transaction is there online in my account already. Up to four times a month they reimburse you for any ATM fees incurred. I can also view a check that was cashed from my account. Lets say, I wrote a check to the gas company, they tell me the date it was cashed, the check # and I can click on the check # and actual see the check (front and bank)- I really think that feature is great.
When I was getting started,in Sept. 1999, I had a lot of questions. Customer service was very helpful and there was never a long wait for someone to answer the call. I must have called 10 times plus, since I have opened my account. I always have a pleasant experience with the call.
The only thing that really bugs me about this way of doing my banking is the length of time it takes for them to receive my deposits. I was use to making deposits thru the ATM, prior to banking this way. With compubank you can only mail in deposits or set up a money transfer with another bank to them. When I mail a deposit it could take any where from 3-7 business working days. Once they have received your deposit its posted immediately but not available until after midnight.
Unfortunately, I have not tried any of their other services such as online bill payment, money transfer or cds etc... But what services I have used with them, the experience has been outstanding. I would definitely recommend this bank to everyone.
