When my previous insurance carrier (we won't mention any names here) raised my rates for the fourth time in five years, despite my semi-pristine driving record - the last time I got a ticket, Jimmy Carter was President - I got on the phone to GEICO, and they wrote me up a policy for 25 percent less. Seven years and two cars later, I'm still with them, and the premium actually dropped substantially in year five. I've had no dealings with the claims department, since I try not to hit things or to have things hit me - which is the only reason why I'm not giving out that fifth star, since I can't fairly rate how they handle claims - but every time I've called into customer service, they've been genuinely helpful, and they've filled my various requests exactly as specified.
This year, I increased my coverages fivefold, which resulted in a modest 20-percent premium increase, and no, they didn't try to talk me into it, either - it was my idea. Occasionally I get a quote from some other firm, and maybe it's a dollar or two a month lower than GEICO's, but usually it's quite a bit higher. Far be it from me to complain about paying less for superior service.
