7/9/2004 - UPDATED LIBERTY MUTUAL AUTO POLICY
Liberty Mutual has been our Auto Insurance Carrier for about 15 years now. We also have them for our Homeowners Insurance as well.
We have 2 cars, a Saturn and a Lincoln Aviator. Our yearly insurance cost is $1617 for the two cars combined. We receive the following discounts from Liberty:
Multi Car Discount - $599.00
Accident Prevention Course $276.00
Anti-Theft Device $ 40.00
Passive Restraints/Air Bags $242.00
Anti Lock Brakes $276.00
Day Time Running Lites (1car) $ 38.00
Group Savings Plus $ 94.00
We also receive a Multi Policy Discount from them which appears on our Home Owners Insurance.
We also receive a 10% Safe Driver Discount on both automobiles.
We are also down as being a Class 48 preferred rate, pleasure use vehicle only - we promise not to have anyone under the age 21 and over the age of 50 driving our car, and we also promise not to put more than 7,500 miles on the cars annually.
We have $100,000/$300,000 Liability coverage
$ 50,000 Property coverage
$ 1,000 Medical - each person
$100,000/$100,000 Supplemental Uninsured Motorist coverage
$ 50,000 Personal Injury Protection (PIP) ($200 deductible)
$100,000 Add'l PIP
$ 50,000 Mandatory Basic Economic loss ($200 Deductible)
$ 4,000 Maximum Monthly Income
$150,000 Aggregate PIP Benefits Available
$ 50 Add'l other expense per day (don't know what this is for)
$ 2,000 Death Benefit
We don't have collision on the Saturn as it is a 1998 and we own it, so we took that coverage off.
We also have $500 glass coverage on the Lincoln, with no deductible. We also have a $500 deductible on the Lincoln for collision. We have towing and labor costs which are $50 that we would be reimbursed if we had to tow and rental car reimbursement of $30/day up to a maximum of $900.
Our premiums are for the Saturn, $654 and for the Lincoln Aviator $963, totalling $1617 for the two cars.
We have had 2 claims with Liberty for auto accidents in the past 15 years - one where we were rear ended by an unlicensed driver (minor damage) and one where someone backed out of their driveway into my legally parked car. In both instances we brought our cars down to the local Liberty Mutual Site (ours is in Lynbrook, NY) where they took pictures of the damage to the cars, gave us an estimate of what they would reimburse for repairs, and cut us a check the same day. We brought their estimate to a local repair shop and the repairs were done for exact estimate Liberty had come up with.
We figured after filing a claim, our insurance would increase - it did not. In both cases we were not at fault. A good idea if you are ever involved in a traffic accident, ALWAYS, not matter how minor the accident may seem, ALWAYS call the police to get an official police report.
We have been extremely happy with Liberty. Their # is 877-389-8894 to find out about rates. Their Claims # is 800-225-2467. I pay my insurance in monthly installments (they charge a $3.00 fee for monthly installments) but it's easier than having to put it out of my pocket all at once.
We had looked into switching insurance carriers about 6 years ago and started looking around for better rates. As soon as I mentioned that we were receiving a "Multi Policy"; Discount (Auto and Homeowners), I was told that there is no way they could beat the price Liberty was giving us.
Liberty also offers discounts if your lease a Volvo, so if you look into them, ask about any Group Policy Discounts they offer or any other discounts they offer for leasing/buying certain cars.
Our insurance rates have gone up with Liberty on our Homeowners but that's because the value of our home has increased so the value we are insured for has increased accordingly.
I highly recommend you take a Defensive Driving Course, as it's saving us $267 - it makes a big difference in your auto policy and if you have any points on your record, it will help reduce your points. If you have 2 or more cars and 2 or more licensed drivers in your household, they should each take the course to get a discount on each of those vehicles.
I hope the information I provided is helpful to anyone shopping for insurance.
