| ChriseyB's Full Review: Mad Catz 12310 MAD Light and Screen Magnifier for ... |
With both of my sons owning Gameboy Colors, I am always on the look-out for accessories that I think would be beneficial to them when they are playing their consoles in the car. One day while shopping at TRU, I thought I had found a great accessory in the Screen Light and Magnifier GB by Mad Catz. Thank goodness, I did not feel as if my money was totally wasted. Here’s why:
When I decided to make the purchase for the Screen Light and Magnifier GB, I looked at a few things. The first thing is that it would magnify my sons’ screens, and in my mind that meant less of an eyestrain. The next thing I looked at is that it had a light, which would light up the screen while they were playing. It was made of plastic, including the magnifying lens, and was very lightweight. Furthermore, it was not complicated to use. All you had to do was “snap it on” to your Gameboy Color. The only drawbacks that I saw were a) it only came in Atomic Purple and b) it required two “AA” batteries—at least that is what I thought were the only drawbacks.
After I made the initial purchase, along with the batteries, I opened the package in the car and handed the new accessory to my oldest son to use on the car ride home. Well, the first complaint was that he could not see. Surprised, I asked him to tell me what was wrong. My son told me it was too dark. Therefore, I told him to turn on the light by flicking the little switch on the side of the console up. Surprised again, it was already up. In my mind, I thought maybe the batteries I bought were bad. So, I told him to hold on until we get home and I will check then.
When we get home, I asked to see his Gameboy Color. I put in Hot Wheels Stunt Driver, turned on the console, and turned on the Screen Light and Magnifier GB. Sure enough, you could not see the screen very well because it was dark. Sure, it was magnified, but the light was not really bright. Therefore, I changed the batteries. Did that make a difference? Nope! The Screen Light and Magnifier GB was a magnifier; however it was anything but a screen light. In the end, we found a way to utilize both my son’s Nyko Worm Light and the Screen Light and Magnifier GB.
Gamers, if you are looking for a great accessory for you Gameboy Color, the Screen Light and Magnifier GB does not come close by a long shot. Sure, it does magnify your screen, but that is about all it does. The light is really dim and, in my Epinion, makes the screen even more difficult to see. On the other hand, if used in conjunction with another lighting source it is a great magnifier. Still, the point of this device is to eliminate the need for another lighting source to give you a better playing advantage. So, if I were you, I would definitely avoid the Screen Light and Magnifier GB—the again, this is just my Epinion…
