| SonicXtreme's Full Review: Sega GT for Dreamcast |
I expected Sega GT to be the messiah of videogames. I have been playing games for years, however purchased a Saturn insted of the PSX (which I don't regret) and never experienced this "GT" thing before. I love racing games and ran out to buy this one the first day it came out. I certainly don't regret it.
At first, you probably won't know what to do in Sega GT. Nothing in the manual really states that you have to get at least an "E" license before you can go into a real race. But once you figure it out, you're in for the ride of a life time. As with most racing games the only view worth a hill of beans is the behind the car view. The controls are basic for a racer and thats how they should be. With each race you finish, you win $ according to what place you finish. But, there's a catch. In order to drive higher profile "SA" class cars (the Viper, Mustang), you must first finish a license test for that particular class, which is basically "finish a lap in under X:XX", not too hard, not too easy, just the way it should be.
Also included in Sega GT are the basic extra modes: single race, time attack and 2-player, all pretty selfexplanitory. You aren't rewarded with anything by completing these modes, but they may help you with the championship mode.
And finally, the one thing Sega GT has that very few car games do: the Carzorrea. As you may expect, this is where you can build your own car with the money you have earned in championship mode. Simply put: the more races you have won, the better you can build the engine in your selfmade car. You will start off with lowly powered cars like 600ccs but eventually, you can build a 1000 horsepower monster.
The music in the game is just plain annoying. It's that 80's SEGA guitar rock stuff that we've heard for years. Oh well, thats what CD players are for.
Bottom Line: A fine racer for your DC that's worth a purchase
