| tommy_lop's Full Review: Harvest Moon 2 for Game Boy Color |
Harvest Moon is a cross between a sim and rpg. In this game your guy (or gal depending on which you choose) runs a farm, you have 3 years to fix it up and show a profit.
Story.
Your village is in financial trouble and the mayor is thinking of selling the farm off to build an amusement park; you come to the rescue by volunteering to keep the farm open. The mayor will give you 3 years to fix it up, if you don't manage to do it by then the farm is kaput.
Graphics.
The graphics are great. The characters are really large and fairly well animated. The colors are bright and well done, this game is pure eye candy.
Sounds.
When it comes to sound hit the mute button. Each season has it's own music, unfortunately it basically plays non-stop thorough out that season and it gets really repetitive.
Gameplay.
Harvest Moon is popular for it's unique game play. You have to manage the farm, from planting and watering plants to building buildings and bridges. The only way to make sure you do everything is to set up a ridged time schedule. Of course there is a bad side to this schedule thing and that is it gets repetitive to constantly do the same thing every day. To keep that from happening they have a lot of extra things to do, and special events in town that happen on certain days. However you have to make sure your there on those days our you'll miss them. If you didn’t like setting schedules and appointments up in Zelda Majoras mask, then you won't like this game because unlike Zelda you don't have any magical instruments to fix up the mess. If you miss an appointment then you miss it for good.
Time limit.
The 3 years limit is more time then you might think. Each day lasts about 15 minutes and each season is 30 days, so you have plenty of time to experiment and find what works best for you, however don't goof around to much.
The places in the game.
Here are the 3 places in the game.
The farm.
This is where you spend most of the game, you have your house, a wood shed, a barn for cows, and a sheep sty. It also has a field and river to the south where you can plant your crops, you'll have to build a bridge across the river to access your full fields.
Mountians.
In the mountains you can relax yourself at the Hot Springs, pick fruit to sell to the buyer, and chop wood for your woodshed.
The village.
This is where you start the game in the village you will find a restaurant, a tool shop, a construction shop, a seed shop, and a lot more. You'll find anything and everything for the farm on sale in the village.
If you have the time to play the game to the fullest it's an enjoyable and relaxing game.
