Return To Zork A Great Game! (Reply to this comment)
by maccentris
Return to Zork to me has been the perfect game. It has always been my favorite game. I've played Nemesis and Grand Inquisitor, but I really wish that Infocom and Activision will make a sequel to RTZ, 20 or 30 years later to see the same world of Zork that I saw there. And the people (of course other people playing for them) also I would like to see the Mushroom people they omitted from the first version, also some new people and kids!

The game has NO flaws. However after playing the game in the old DOS format in 1993, and falling in love with the whole thing, years later I purchased the Macintosh version that came bundled with Blackthorne. I am not sure if this is just a "bare bones" copy of the game modified to fit on the CD with Blackthorne. The music CD tracks are gone, instead the music sounds like midi music. Terrible. The quality of the graphics is significantly diminished. Many conversations are shortened, even though the recordings are all the original conversations. The toast with Boos Miller was shortened to 1 (he will go to sleep if you have not asked him for keys, he will fall over after the first toast if you've asked him for the keys) you can ask him for the keys anytime and he will give them to you. Rebecca wont test you, instead you are presented with the "faces" menu, and the apologenic one will get her to continue as if you had answered the test correctly. Also Rebecca presents herself with a car outdoors, you are looking at her from the other side of the motor hood. The rats look bloody inside the box even when you dont put them in with the mice and they are alive. Moodock will no longer give you a hint about how to fix the sword. In the Citadel Bridge you only have to throw a few things at the bridge to make the other one pop-up. I am not sure if later releases of this game were like this even for Windows. But I was completely dissatisfied about those things. Of course the game is still the same but those things made the game "easier" to beat for me and I became bored of it soon after I bought it :( I am buying a new in box original game from infocom for Mac hoping this one is the same as the old DOS version. If not I am very disappointed about the version they made for Mac, which is nothing but a bare bones shadow copy of what the original was and its just not fair.

thanks, Lili

I loved Zork too.. way back when, but I always used to get frustrated because we had a pirated version and I never knew everything I was supposed to do. Finally, a friend let me borrow a book of his about it. LOL!!

I miss that game!
