After hearing a few friends of ours rave over The Sims computer game, my husband and I decided to purchase it. We got a pretty good deal on the game ($40) and were excited to get it home and begin playing.
We got home and I booted up our PC and began the installation of the game. I was really looking forward to playing; after all, The Sims had been the talk of the town for a couple months. The game started up and I was walked through the demo. It looked a bit complicated, but I figured once I started playing I would get the hang of it.
I created a family for myself, and named them the Kellys after my own family :) I created three Sims within that family, and named them after my husband, my son, and myself. I chose clothing for them and dressed them. I selected a home for us, and we were 'moved' in. We had no furniture or belongings so I purchased a few items. So far the game was not turning out to be like I had expected. The Sims don't actually talk to each other like I had been led to believe. They seem to have their own 'Sim' language that is impossible to understand.
I began having my Sims interact with each other, hoping that the game would pick up and become more entertaining. No such luck. Even after having my Sims tease, talk, dance with, and kiss each other, I was still bored with the game. There just wasn't enough action to keep me interested.
The graphics on The Sims are pretty good, which is always a plus. Nothing out of the ordinary, but good. On the purchase screens there is a big selection of furniture and household wares to choose from, which is nice, but it just doesn't add enough excitement to the game.
This game just wasn't for me. I was hugely disappointed because of all the raving my friends had done. I guess I just had my expectations built too high. Oh, well - live and learn!
