graphics and sounds? (Reply to this comment)
by ChromeKiller
From your review, I know nothing about the graphics or sounds of the game. I know who made the music, and I know that when you enter the castle there's music, but I don't know what the music sounds like. Also, try to remember that there are sound effects out there to describe.
I don't know what the graphics look like either. Giving out examples would help in areas such as the way the level designs come together or the sprite effects running through the game.
But if you get around to updating the review, just let me know about it (whether through e-mail or through review comment) so I can re-rate the review.
By the way... it's a terrible idea to spoil that Magus becomes part of your party in time. He serves as a main villain through much of the game, and people who haven't played this game ye are going to read that and know what's going to happen later down the road from having read that information in your review.

Thanks for the comments, guys and gals!
Khendra, I don't think the sprites were updated, but I did not play the original SNES version. The only drawback to this version that I read online was that the load times were much longer than on the NES, mainly due to porting issues. But that still doesn't detract too much from the game's enjoyability.
Mike, you're right---this is just one of those classics you've got to have in your library!
Thanks to both of you for stopping by, oh----and thanks Khendra, for the musical prop. Knew I could count on 'ya! :)

Composers and comparisons to the SNES version (Reply to this comment)
by thewisefool, in Games
The composers for Chrono Trigger are Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobuo Uematsu (the latter of Final Fantasy fame). My favorite pieces from CT are "End of Time" and "Guardia Forest."
Since I am only familiar with the SNES version, what I was a little curious about was how the PS1 version's graphics compare to the SNES version. I know the PS1 was 32-bit and capable of 3D renditions, so did they up the graphics any from the SNES 2D sprites?
Anyway, great review full of info for anyone not familiar with the gist of this awesome game. It sounds like the PS1 version has the same essential features. CT is in my top three all-time RPGs, alongside Final Fantasy 6 and Ultima 4: Quest of the Avatar.
