MelissaF's Full Review: Simcity 2000 for PlayStation 1
My son has been playing this for two or three years. He's 11 now and still loves this game.
Sim City does a pretty good job of teaching kids how a city is created. It takes a lot of patience and careful attention to detail to figure out how to be successful. Sometimes it's a little frustrating when things don't go as planned, but it's still a lot of fun.
One thing this game teaches is consequences. Kids learn that if they want to add a university or a hospital to their city, they'll have to get the population up in order to collect tax money. In order to get the population up they need to provide good schools, adequate utilities, decent roads, etc. So they learn that everything has to be coordinated. Like I said, things don't always go as planned, but the kids don't seem to mind too much. This game can be downright addicting!
