Well I can honestly say I did not know anything about the original Tribes. I kept reading about Tribes 2 and that it was finally coming but I did not feel like I would like it - I was wrong. I read a review of it in PCGamer and changed my mind and decided to try it out. Luckily when I got the game (May 1) several patches had been released so alot of the bugs had been fixed. Since then several patches have been released and game works fine for me. I had a Voodoo 5 5500 and the game ran horrible on it (as low as 8 fps in spots). I upgraded to a GeForce 3 and it kicks but. I instantly got hooked on the game. I had always enjoyed Q3A and UT, and this was similiar. This game requires alot of teamwork and the ability to drive tanks, fly bombers or transports is awesome. Everyone can find their niche in the game. If you are aggressive then get on offense and go for the flag or be on defense and defend yours. Or if you are like me build a bomber get a pilot and go bombing. I convinced my brother to buy and since then we have been playing up to 5 times per week. I defintely recommend the game it is awesome - Give it a try.
