This year my wife and I decided to upgrade our patio and grill set. In the case of our grill, we were moving away from a very basic "Fiesta" grill, that had clearly run out of gas (in more ways than one).
Like many users of lower end grills, I had become accustomed to its many limitations. Some spots would burn a steak - while other spots would leave it raw.
In moving to my Weber, I knew that there would be an improvement, but I must admit I had no idea how big a leap it would be.
The Weber is a precision instrument. When I finished putting it together (which by the way is a very easy job) I was immediately struck by the quality of the construction. The gas fittings and burners are made of solid, heavy brass and stainless steel. The lid is heavy, and all the parts move very smoothly.
But once you fire it up, you really notice the difference. It seems that no matter where on the grill I put a cut of meat, I get a very reliable result. With the Weber, I feel like I can control the grill perfectly - with no "surprises" in terms of hot spots and cold spots. In short - perfect steaks every single time.
Unlike many other grills, the burners are arranged front to back, not side to side. Also, the middle grill fires straight up, while the two outside grills fire into the "walls" of the box.
What this means in practical terms is that you have amazing control over the way your grill cooks. If you want to cook a steak directly, you will find yourself relying on the middle burner. However you can also cook indirectly (using convection) by using the two outside "wall firing" burners, and leaving the middle burner on low. This indirect method (for which Weber is famous) allows you to cook chickens, roasts and even grilled pizzas - all with terrific results.
The Genesis Gold C also comes with a highly capable side burner. Though I don't use this burner often, it is very handy on those occasions when you want it - particularly on hot days when you don't want to heat up the kitchen.
Finally, it has to be said that this is a beautiful grill. The stainless steel hood positively gleams when it is wiped clean. I just love the look of this grill on my patio.
Along with the grill itself, I also picked up a Weber Rotissary. I strongly advise you to seriously consider this purchase. Nothing, I repeat nothing is more satisfying than a rotissary chicken. For the relatively small incremental cost (about $100) it is worth the investment.
What can I say, I love this grill.
