Pros: Florida contractors were honest about damage and 2,300 lb. overestimate.
Cons: No response to damage claim, lost items, unanswered voice mails.
The Bottom Line: After reading several reviews, it is apparent that Bekins only hopes that you become frustrated enough not pursue action for their incompetence. Fairness is not part of their mission.

| smeyers's Full Review: Bekins Van Lines |
Since 1968, my family used Bekins Van Lines for numerous moves from Western PA to several locations nationally because of a neighbor who owns a moving company associated with Bekins. Personally, I used them for two relocations and was impressed with their professionalism and reliability in my first relocation that was a mere 30 miles away. However, when I relocated from Pennsylvania to Florida, five years later the results were much different.
When the movers arrived at my FL location, they told me that in Pennsylvania a Bekins mover dropped our $800 dining room table. Interestingly enough, it was the last item the movers took off the truck! The table was horribly damaged, but he assured us that all I needed to do was contact Bekins and the matter would be resolved. As a prelude, he told us that since it was the Pennsylvania movers who were responsible, that his agreement contract should be signed that all items were received as shipped. MISTAKE!
During the move we discovered even more bad news. Many items never made the trip, including a $200 French 10-speed bike, bed linens, dehumidifier, porch table, a treasured family Bible, etc, etc. There were also several damaged items that I was able to repair on my own. When I contacted Bekins, they said they were unable to locate the missing items after a "complete search of the matter"! In addition, the FL movers told us that the weight estimate for the move was 2,300 over what was actually loaded.
Although I was willing to dismiss the "missing" items, I pursued the compensation for our dining room table. Initially, Bekins denied the compensation for the table because of the signed agreement!! But, after several phone calls and a letter from our PA realtor testifying that the dining room table was not damaged before the move, Bekins sent us a letter on April 12, 2001 stating that we would be compensated for the table within 90 days.
More bad news. After 140 days..no check. I've left numerous unanswered voice mail messages asking for the status of our claim and have received no update on our missing items after one year. Avoid Bekins at all costs. I have contacted an attorney to pursue my promised compensation with interest along with the lost and damaged items and the 2,300 pound overestimate.
