| RubySapphire's Full Review: Husqvarna Freesia 425 Sewing Machine |
I recently purchased a Viking Freesia 425 sewing machine, after looking into other comparable brands (Pfaff, Janome, Bernina). I am delighted with this purchase! I am not a very experienced seamstress, but this little machine makes things that I thought were difficult, very easy.
I love how easy it is to change presser feet. Threading the needle is a snap and bobbin threading is even easier than that. I love the thread cutters located behind the needle, in the bobbin casing and in the bobbin threading area.
The user manual is thorough and easy to understand. The dealer did give me a very thorough demonstration and lesson before I took my Freesia home, and the manual reinforced everything she showed me.
I find that no matter what stitch I choose, it's always evenly spaced and of uniform tension.
This machine has some great features. One is the 'Fix' button. At the beginning or end of a seam, the Fix button ties off the thread. No needed to reverse over the seam to tie it off.
Another great feature is the backlit LCD screen. With every stitch selected, it will flash the appropriate presser foot. It also displays the appropriate tension level.
This machine also has a memory feature. You can enter in any combination of stitches and it will remember them in the order programmed. When you are at the end of your stitching, just hit the 'stop' button and the machine finishes the stitch it's on and stops.
Mirror imaging is another feature of this Viking. If, for example, you're doing a cuff or blouse placket, you can sew a decorative stitch down each side and have them mirror each other. This is nice to use with the flower and leaf patterns.
The Freesia 425 also offers two different button hole stitches: the bar-tack and the key-hole. An available accessory (sold separately) is the sensor foot button- holer. You simply attach the foot, measure your button hole and the machine remembers it and will continually stitch that button hole until you tell it to stop!
Viking also offers a myriad of accessories for any project. They have kits available for home decorating, quilting, etc., which are all-inclusive of the supplies needed for that particular project.
This machine offers 30 stitches, two ways to thread a bobbin, memory, a detachable accessory tray that, when detached, creates a narrow arm for doing cuffs and hems.
All in all, I think the Viking Freesia 425 is an excellent sewing machine for beginning sewers, as well as experienced ones.
