Little Bill is a animated show that was created by none other than Bill Cosby. It almost appears to me to be based somewhat off of the original Cosby television show.
The episode that I watched with my toddler this morning showed Little Bill and his class going on a field trip to the zoo. It appeared that each child had a favorite animal, because each of them would mention the animal name and then either walk or make the appropriate animal sound. As an adult watching, I noticed that each of the children had a lunch box, which showed their favorite animal picture on the side.
Once at the zoo, Little Bill wanted to see the elephants first, so the teacher showed the children the map for the zoo. Of course the elephants were last on the map. She told Little Bill that he would need to be patient and that they would see the elephants a little later.
The first animal on the map, after the flamingo's at the entrance were the penguins. The teacher made a point of asking if they knew where penguins lived. One child finally answered and said the South Pole. Then the class moved on to the giraffe's. The learned that the giraffe's had long necks, and that they ate leaves.
Well, then the teacher told the class that it was time for lunch. Little Bill said that he still wanted to see the elephants. The teacher told him to be patient and that after lunch they would see the elephants.
After they finished their lunch, it was time to see more animals. The next animals that they saw, were the monkeys. The teacher told them to watch how the monkey's use their tails to swing.
Now they were off to see the elephants. When they first got to the elephant area, all you could see was the back part of an elephant, so some of the kids started saying that the elephants were boring. Finally a baby elephant came up and made his elephant sound. Then the mother elephants turned around and followed the baby to a pond. She then took water into her trunk and then sprayed the baby elephant.
The second part of this half-hour episode was geared toward Little Bill asking to get a pet. Of course he wanted an elephant as a pet. So off he and his mother went to the pet store, where he finally decided on a hampster. Once back home, he decided to name his hampster "Elephant."
After to viewing Little Bill at other times, I've finally decided that the educational value of this show is geared toward patience, people are different and sharing. Each episode that I have viewed seems to be geared toward one of these three things.
Overall, Little Bill is quality entertainment for the toddler/pre-school age group.
