Pros: The red rocks
Cons: Read what I have to say above....
The Bottom Line: The setting is magical, but DON'T take a treatment at Mi Amo OR participate in any resort activity OR eat at Yavapai

| laelia's Full Review: Enchantment Resort And Mii Amo Spa |
Let's set the stage: My brother-in-law has been there five times and raves about it. I've been wanting to go for the last three years, but everytime I made plans something came up (in hindsight this should have been an indication to me). I had been in contact with the concierge to pre-register for some of their activities (every e-mail they 'replied' to from me had my name spelled incorrectly -- THAT should have been another warning sign!) Finally, this year, my husband and I were able to coordinate our work/travel schedules to make the trip.
I was soooooooooooooo excited.
I'm now soooooooooooooooooo disappointed.
Here are the things that stick out in my mind when I think of the resort:
1. Scheduled a treatment at Mi Amo spa. Appointment for 2 p.m. I show up at 1:45 and asked to sit in the waiting area. And wait, and wait, and wait. I finally get up and go to the front desk to speak with the same person who checked me in. I ask her what time it was. She replied, '2:16'. 'I've traveled in the Near East and I know that time there is different from the rest of the world, and often 2 p.m. is really 2:30 or 3 p.m. Is time in Sedona like the rest of the US or like the Near East?'. She tells me that it's like the rest of the U.S. I then tell her that I had a 2 p.m. appointment. She tells me that she'll look into it. I tell her not to bother since I have another appointment at 3 p.m. and have no desire to squeeze an hour appointment into 35 minutes or less. Question: Considering that there was NO ONE else in the waiting room wouldn't you think that she would have been attentive to my being taken care of? PS - Never did find out what happened.
2. The only thing I truly, really, had my heart set on doing at Enchantment was to take this 2-hour watercolor course. I get up early, have breakfast at Yavapai (more on that later) go to the room 10 minutes early -- no one there. That's odd. I go to the concierge, who asks if I'm signed up. SIGNED UP?!?!?!? Why would I sign up? There was not little * indicating that pre-registration was required. Oh, and on top of that there's a waiting list of 11. GREAT! I storm (yup, at this point I'm in a 'stormy' state of mind) back to my room, pull out my webpage printout from the day before and sure enough....there is no * in front of the course. With printout in hand I storm back to the lobby and request to speak with the resort manager. After a while he appears (he was in a meeting) and we go back to his office and discuss the two incidences so far. He assures me that he will 'make things right'. Hmmmm wonder what that means.
3. Yavapai - the restaurant on the resort. On the morning of the waterclass course I go to breakfast early. The dining room is virtually empty. Why then would I be made to wait 7 minutes (yes, I timed it) and have a line build up behind me just to be seated? And on top of that there were two hostesses on duty at the time. We then had a dinner there that evening (against my better judgement) where the bread was brought to our table after my appetizer course (which was lukewarm at best). We waited, and waited, and waited......on the plus side my husband thoroughly enjoyed his dinner.
4. Friday morning (the day of our departure) we awaken to a rapping on the door. I open to find a waiter with a full (and I mean full) spread for breakfast. Hmmm...I think to myself, this must be an attempt on the resort manager's part to 'make things right'. The waiter greets me and asks if I am the 'X' party. OH NO!!! I regretfully inform him that we are the 'Y' party. He apologizes and promptly leaves...spread and all!
Had enough? I know I have...but that's not the end of my saga...sadly enough!
I have one treatment at the spa - a Rosemary body scrub. Sounded like just what I needed after a long New England winter. Although at times I felt a little raw during the rub down my body felt squeeky clean as I left. Upon return home, I happen to run my hand down my back. OH NO!!! It's covered with bumps!!! I immediately get in to see my dermatologist...oh yes, the treatment lead to the exposure of these bumps/skin tags (aka non-cancerous growths) on my back (don't have the brochure he gave me at hand that gives the medical name for them). End result: 9 shots (to numb) and then the burning off of those bumps/skin tags. I'm now putting triple ointment cream on those spots and rubbing a lotion prescribed by my dermatologist to alleviate the irritation caused by those and other 'bumps'.
We did fill out a survey (my husband did, and I believe he was a little kinder than I would have been) and Enchantment responded w/ a form letter (by the way, Enchantment if you are reading this, you might want to go into that template since you do have a typ-o or two on that letter) and enclosed a certificate for a one-night stay. Uhhh, are they kidding???? Ain't no way this girl is going back there!
