Pros: Clean room Comfortable bed Free Parking Barry Manilow on Room Keys
Cons: Boring No indoor pool or hot-tub Extra charge for WiFi
The Bottom Line: Safe and boring, but comfortable and basic. Not a bad choice if you're using hotel points, but if you want pizazz, go for a hotel on the strip.

Looking for glamour and glitz in Las Vegas? Skip over the Las Vegas Hilton. Looking for a clean, comfortable, and quiet room near the convention center? Have Hilton Hotel points and looking to score a free stay? You'll get a comfortable bed, flat screen TV and decent shower at the Las Vegas Hilton, but you may find yourself bored to tears very quickly.
Getting There: The Las Vegas Hilton may not be in Paradise, but you'll find it in the northeast quadrant of Las Vegas, a few blocks off the strip on Paradise Road. The entrance to this triple-high-rise hotel is a bit confusing, but look for a Hilton sign that resembles a giant order of french fries. Once you arrive, you can either valet park your car and check-in, or park in the 15 minute parking zone and check-in. Then, drive a little further to the North Parking Garage, where parking is free. We found the check-in process fairly easy, although there's a pretty long walk through the hotel to get to the room.
The Room: We were hoping for an upgrade, but we ended up with a standard double-queen room. We found our decent-sized room fairly attractive, with two queen beds and a flat-screen TV. The bathroom had a nice-sized tub/shower combo and sink, but nothing too fancy. Toiletries were the standard Hilton shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion. A desk, chair, hairdryer and iron completed the amenities. Everything else in the room was an extra charge, which didn't please me. For example, Internet access (wifi or cable) was about $14 per day/per computer. The safe (for high-rollers) was a $3 charge. Two bottles of water were offered at $4 each. The monorail seemed like a good way to get to the strip, but the $5 per-person charge was enough to convince us to drive there instead.
Comfort Rating: I found the the bed fairly comfortable and slept well, although the pillows were just average and not very fluffy. The drapes didn't completely cover the windows and some light shone into the room during the night. Bath towels were fluffy, but only three came with the room. We asked for another one, which was brought after all of us had showered and dressed. A big disappointment was the pool and hot-tub, which was outdoors and closed due to windy conditions. I would have love to have soaked my tired legs and piggies in a cozy indoor spa.
Restaurants and Casino: Several colorful casino areas were brightly lit and accessible (I don't gamble) and some decent-looking restaurants and shops. We found the food overpriced (not surprising; it's overpriced all over Vegas except for at Taco Bell). Our coffee-milk-pastry-and-muffin breakfast cost about $32. In contrast, a similar meal at the Starbucks cost around $25. We ate all other meals on the strip where we found the restaurants much more visually appealing.
My Overall Thoughts: You'll read this description of the Las Vegas Hilton on their website:
Discover a hidden gem within the City of Lights – elegant, spectacular, and delightfully tucked away – at the Las Vegas Hilton.
I think it's definitely more elegant than a Hampden Inn or Best Western. However, I found the hotel way too vanilla in appearance and lacking any pizazz or glitz, or even a theme. After all - this is Las Vegas! When we got to the strip, we entered one hotel after another that dazzled us with Roman columns, fountains, volcanoes, lakes, lions, statues, pyramids, circus acts and other fun and festive sights. The Las Vegas Hilton is just BLAH and plain Jane compared to almost every other hotel we visited.
As far as Barry Manilow is concerned, I would have gone to his concert if my family had desired. I thought having Barry Manilow's photo on the room keys was a nice touch. There were plenty of posters advertising Manilow's concert at the Las Vegas Hilton. There were also many other scantily-clad posters advertising some "Bad Girls" show, which led my family to dub this hotel the "Las Nakeds" Hilton.
Final Recommendation: Where was Paris? She was nowhere to be found at the Las Vegas Hilton, and neither was Elvis. I have stayed in Hilton hotels in both Europe and the US, and this Hilton offers nice, if not unimaginative accomodations. I can't complain about either the room or the service, it's just nothing exceptional. If you desire a clean, efficient and moderately comfortable hotel, or one near the convention center, the Las Vegas Hilton will not disappoint. Consider the location and the ambiance, though. We thought we might be able to walk to the strip, as it's only a few blocks away. However, we were advised not to walk to the Strip from the Hotel, as the neighborhood was not safe. So, we drove to the strip and parked for free at Caesar's Palace. Now there's a hotel with pizazz!
