| buppy's Full Review: Paris Las Vegas |
Bonjour!
Once again, my fiance and I made our annual summer trip to Las Vegas. This time of the year, although very hot, is cheaper and less crowded, especially during the week. I found the Paris Las Vegas on the internet for $69 a night, with an additional 10% off for having Triple A. I immediately booked for 3 nights. Here is a breakdown of the hotel and its ammenities:
Check in:
There was no line when we checked in on Sunday and were able to walk over to a clerk immediately. I had requested king, non-smoking, with a view. They were out of king beds, but we were able to get a room on the 11th floor, non-smoking with 2 queen beds. Ok, that's fine. The elevators were close to the reception area - very nice - I hate dragging my luggage through the casino. We went to the elevator bank marked 4-11, and up we went.
Room:
A little small. I was a bit disappointed. We did have a killer view of the strip and the pool, but with 2 queen beds, 2 armchairs, a desk and an armoire, there wasn't much walking space left. The bathroom only had a single sink, but had a glass enclosed shower and separate tub. Not very exciting. The decor had a few French flairs, but nothing to make me think I'd walked into a hotel in that magnificent city by accident. The beds were pretty comfy and the maid service was prompt and came when we requested.
Room Service:
Yummy is all I can say to describe it. We had breakfast all 3 days while looking out at the strip and the pool. They tried to make it as French as possible (translation:fattening) and I think they did a pretty good job. The hash browns were mixed with some kind of cream and had a thick yet crunchy texture. They were my favorite part. I ordered a cheeseburger one morning (very hung over) and it was large and cooked to my liking. The melted gruyere cheese on it was wonderful. Price wise, it was reasonable. With tip and tax and "hotel service fees" a full breakfast and coffee was under $30 each time, and well worth it. The delivery took a little on the long side, anywhere from 30-40 minutes.
Casino:
Often the determining factor in a hotel, at least for me. Both my fiance and I had pretty good luck here. They have done away with the $5 minimum blackjack and roulette tables, but you can still find a $5 craps table here and there during the day. There are ample slot machines and I was able to find plenty of Wheel of Fortune slots (my new obsession). The interior is attractive. There are little "cafes" throughout the casino and the floor is set up in an organized fashion so you do not have to walk too far to a restroom or a cashier. The ceiling is a "sky" complete with clouds and the floor is similar to a cobblestone path.
As mentioned above - free cigarettes!!! Yes, I smoke, and if you are sitting at a table, you can order cigarettes when you order your drink from the waitress. A very nice man sitting next to me at a blackjack table informed me of this little known secret. I smoked for free the entire time I was there!!!
Restaurants:
Unfortunately, the only hotel food we ate was room service. We did receive a $20 certificate to the steakhouse for signing up for the Paris club (well worth it to go get a free card and the gift certificate - takes mere minutes). We will definitely visit next time.
Pool:
Nothing special. It is an octogonal shape with no "deep end." There are chairs on all sides and we didn't have to fight for one at any point. Of course, it was off season and mid-week. We received as many towels as we wanted and the bar was nearby. If you are looking for a fun pool with waterslides, this is not the place to go.
Location:
Excellent! Right next door is Bally's (where you can charge stuff to your room at Paris), and across the street is the Bellagio. We could see the infamous water show from our room. To the left is the Aladdin, which has my favorite Chinese restaurant, P.F. Chang's. You could walk to the MGM/NYNY, but in the heat we opted to cab it pretty much everywhere, or you could hop on the monorail at the Bellagio. The location is probably the best feature of this hotel.
Overall, a satisfying experience, especially for around $60 a night. We spent hardly any time in the room and everyone we associated with was extremely friendly. We got a kick out of the French language everywhere - Le Toilettes, Le Elevators, Le Reception - and by the end of the trip my fiance and I stuck "Le" in front of everything! Guess you had to be there.
Merci!
