As most Americans these days, we are trying to reduce, reuse, and lower our cost of living. Costs of food and gas are rising monthly, sometimes daily! When you are paying $75 to fill up your gas tank and over $6 for a large box of Cheerios, there is little money left over for savings. So when I heard of Mother Earth News magazine, I grabbed it up!
What I like about this magazine:
*So many tips on saving money and growing your own food in every issue. Tips so simple that even people without a green thumb can do them!
*Articles on new 'green' news and other environmental concerns such as the disappearance of bees.
*All advertisements are for products that save money, change your home to being more 'green', seeds, plants, and more that go perfectly with this magazine.
*Learn how to do things at home or grow things that you usually would pay for or buy at the store. In one issue a long article is all about tomatoes and even growing hybrid tomatoes.
*Learn how to save money on energy costs by simple changes in your home...reduce the costs of running your computer by a little known product in the article. A graph shows even extra ways to save money on your electric bill that is not discussed in the article.
*Healthy recipes that are cheap and delicious! Who knew oatmeal could be this tasty?
*Nature articles and in color pictures of animals.
*Wonder how people did so much with so little years ago? An article in this issue has Best Low-Tech Tools for gardening!
*How can you garden with no pesticides? Find out in an article within the magazine. Step by step instructions make this a simple task to do.
*Go organic and don't forget your pooch....organic dog treats are sold at various websites in one advertisement!
*Want to learn how wind turbines work? Which items are healthiest for your diet? How to make your house more green without major costs? What crop is best to plant when? Do people eat dandelions? Could what kids eat cause ADD?
*Even the letters from people into the magazine are interesting and informative to read!
*Each issue seems to focus one article on one specific vegetable or fruit...one issue has an article all about lettuce and the previous one was all about tomatoes including organic.
*Interesting and informative articles keep you up to date about off the grid living or like some of us, off the grid wannabes!
*Gorgeous full color pictures of real people doing real cost saving things discussed in the magazine.
What I do not like about this magazine:
*Many many advertisements!
*Many pull-out cards get in my way as I am flipping through reading the articles.
The Website:
The website loaded slowly for me but they do have a video on the front page of it. As with the magazine, you can learn about solar energy, organic gardening, cutting energy costs, country lore, homesteading, DIY improvements, and more on the site. Here you can vote on different aspects of the magazine and sign up for various newsletters on your topic of choice.
Final Say:
All in all, a really nice magazine that I enjoy looking through. I have learned lots about conserving and reducing costs. I love the longer articles making some of the instructions much more understandable with step by step instructions on some. It makes living more simply less painful and more of a joy as we see others doing it. Can't beat $10 for a yearly subscription and they do come six times a year.

It makes living more simply less painful and more of a joy as we see others doing it. Can't beat $10 for a yearly subscription and they do come six times a year.
