Enya's Watermark really is a pretty CD. And though it is relaxing, easy listening, bubble bath and candle light type music, it isn't musical lobotomy music, like Kenny G. and some other "new age" music. Her voice is beautiful, and the layered, synthesized music that accompanies her is perfect, as are the harmonies, no doubt made through the miracle of overdubbing. With all the reverb, the music sounds like it was made under water. I like that.
My favorite songs include "On Your Shore," "Storms in Africa," "Exile," "The Long Ships," and "Na Lactha Gail M'oige." Most have an Irish feel to them, suggesting misty fields, distant memories, and a never-ending longing for something that can't be described. And all of her songs put me in a good mood after a hectic day.
This is also a great CD to have if you have a really good stereo. Even many of my male friends like Watermark, and they often use to demonstrate their systems. "The Long Ships," for example has really nicely layered harmonies and bass notes that absolutely rattle the walls.
Of all of Enya's CDs, I'd say this is the best, followed by Shepherd Moons.
Note: Avoid "The Celts." I thought it would be great but it turned out to be really boring.
