Some Things Cleared (Reply to this comment)
by qtran77
I'm so glad some things were cleared up in your review. I always thought that the lyrics of Lake of Fire were "Where'd about folks go when they die" I like the correct version better, cuz that way not everyone goes to the lake of fire. I love that song.

Convinced me... (Reply to this comment)

I've read many, many of your reviews because you seem to be interested in, firstly, a huge variety of music, and secondly, most of the same music as me. Anyway (by the way, this is my first ever comment - you've pushed me over the mere bystander line) I'm really just jumping fully on the Nirvana bandwagon now (better late than never) and needed to decide which record to purchase next. It was out of Incesticide, in Utero and this one, and thanks to your glowing review, I decided to try Unplugged, and I don't regret it in the least!
Thanks again for being so trustworthy that I decided to um... trust you. Great review!

Hi gang, I love this album too, especially "Where Did You Sleep Last Night". MAN, what a vocal performance! "Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam" is indeed by the Vaselines--how could that message have come from gospel music? It is a cynical parody of a children's Sunday school song called "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam". I think that Cobain's embracing that brand of cynicism led to his suicide, so I find his performance of the song more haunting than even the funereal decoration of the stage.

Go ahead and write! This album most certainly deserves as much support as possible. While most people will call Nevermind or In Utero or whatever their favorite Nirvana album it's Unplugged that gets me :)
Thanks for the comments.

The one Nirvana album any music fan should have (Reply to this comment)
by dxbari
I thought this review was really well done. I don't get to read around here as much as I'd like, but I'm glad I took a stroll around this listing. I was kicking around the idea of writing a review for this disc earlier this year, but now there's no need.
One of the machines I spend way too much time on only has 14 mp3s on it (emergency music) which would be the 14 tracks I recorded off this very CD.

Nirvana's Nirvana (Reply to this comment)

Great review, I just may check this one out being an enormous Nirvana fan, although, the fact that I own nearly all of their CDs, besides this one, will probably prevent purchase. Good info

Damn! I knew it was :)
THat's what my mind kept on telling me, but when I dug up the Vaselines as the original performer I thought I was wrong. Danke!

Being an obsessive music freak, I figure I'd let you know that Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam is actually an old gospel song - it was just later on adapted by the Vaselines. Nirvana performs the Vaseline version though. If you listen closely before the song starts on the record, Kurt says so himself.

well, since we'll likely never get a "Best of" set due to the unfortunate legal issues, I'm glad to know there's at least one disc out there that simulates the experience...

I thought I'd heard it was an old gospel track. I'll do some research and see what I turn up and correct my err ASAP!
Thanks again!

Thanks for your comments...Where Did You Sleep is great, but I just have this thing for Lake of Fire. I used to turn my old copy (on tape, mind you) up as loud as my little Jensen stereo in my Escort would go. I'm sure the poor little car rattled, but the song always made me feel free...
Blah, blah, blah. I know. Thanks again, both of you!

I really love this record too. Actually lost the first copy of it that I owned because I left it in an old stereo system when we sold it in a garage sale.
I agree that Lake Of Fire is a pwerful song, but I always felt that Where Did You Sleep Last Night? was the real crescendo of the record.

I've only listened to 'All Apologies' and 'Man Who Sold the World' from this album, and both sound amazing. I have tried to get myself to buy this album, but always keep forgetting!
Thanks for inspiring me to buy this album.
