track_runner's Full Review: Jars of Clay by Jars of Clay
Jars of Clay are probably one of the most top rated Christian "rock" bands out there along with others such as DC Talk and Supertones. There mixture of pop/rock, acoustic/electric and other combinations have captivated listeners into a vortex of music that only Jars of Clay can belt out. Out of their 3 main CDs ("Jars of Clay", "Much Afraid", and "If I Left the Zoo") I consider this their best work.
This self titled album is the first of Jars of Clay. Originating in Syracuse, N.Y., Jars of Clay is a 4 member band that just clicks together so well. This CD is all acoustic guitar (their use of electric guitar comes in later albums, but it doesn't have the same effect as the acoustic). It is accompanied by piano, drums, bass, and violin at some parts. They songs are all kinda "soft", yet in a way they don't seem like it. You just get so involved in the acoustic guitar and the lyrics that it just overwhelms you.
Songs very from "Love Song for a Savior", a simple praise to God from the band of how "they want to fall in love with him". Probably the most lyrically sound song on the album.
"Art in Me" is a song that depicts the need for people to recognize your accompishments and what you've worked hard for. It also points out that you have to see what a person is capable of. Another great song. "Worlds Apart" is probably my favorite song on the CD. It explains how we are so fair from God, but he is still with us. This is the song that really hits me. It shows what was sacrificed for us and what God has, and can do for us.
I can't go into detail about every song, but believe me, they all hold their own ground. One of the unique (yet not so unique) things about the CD is the hidden track at the end. It takes a while to get too (you have to let the last song "Blind" play until it gets to 5:59 and it is a song that puts 2 Corinthians 4:7 to music. It is really good. Afterwards if you wait even longer ( a long time) it is an instrumental piece that is ok, but nothing really worth the effort of getting too. The hidden track is good though.
This is the best Jars of Clay CD out there. Go get it. Its as simple as that! Check my other opinions on Jars of Clay and other Christian and non-Christian music.
