Liszt's Transcendental Etudes have long been proclaimed by the music community as some of the most challenging pieces in all of the piano repertoire. Regarded in Liszt's day as all but impossible to play, these pieces demand intense instrumental virtuosity. This skill shines through in Sviatoslav Richter's playing more so that I have heard by almost any other pianist. Truly a master of the piano, Richter handles each of the etudes perfectly, as they were meant to be played; the challenging show pieces that they are. The sound quality of this recording is simply the best, clear and conveys each note perfectly. I highly recommend this recording to any fan of Liszt's music, Richter's performances, or piano music in general.
