geovolt's Full Review: Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle
**This review is for just the song "Butterfly Kisses", by Bob Carlisle. I couldn't find it in a singles section, so I'm putting it in his album section, close enough I think.
Also, this is part of a Write- Off hosted by KMINER on the topic of "Most Meaningful Song".
Gears grinding
That being said, I'll start my review. When I first got involved in this review I didn't give any thought as to what song I'd write about, I just assumed I'd find a song that was really special to me with no problem. There are lots of songs I like, and many that gives me goose bumps when I hear them. But, when I started thinking about what song I'd do, I drew a blank. Then my dad called and it hit me-- "Butterfly Kisses"! Why didn't I think of that sooner?
What in the hell's a "Butterfly Kiss???"
Okay, since I'm not too familiar with Bob Carlisle, or his music, I had to do some research. I found his official website from searching with google. I had no idea what a "Butterfly Kiss" was, but I was going to find out if I wrote this review. So, according to Bob, here's a informal definition:
"A butterfly kiss happens when the delicate lashes of your baby's eyes sweep across your cheek."
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh! So that's what it is. Glad I got that cleared up, I was really wondering.
Who, What?
The song was written by Bob Carlisle and Randy Thomas and published in 1996. It's on the album "Butterfly Kisses (Shades of Grace)". He wrote the song for his daughter, Brooke, he said that it hit him late one night, that his "baby girl" had grown up and would be leaving the nest soon. Originally, he hadn't even planed to release it, but of course, he's glad he did. Carlisle's a pretty accomplished Gospel singer and has released many a records.
My corny dad
Well, this song is special to me not because I'm particularly a fan of Bob Carlisle, Gospel music, or any other aspects directly related to the song (although I've got nothing against Bob Carlisle, Gospel music, it's just not my thing), it's special to me because it's special to my dad, and HE is special to me. See, I'm a total daddy's girl. Have always been, and always will be.
The first time he heard the song he had to have it. So that year for Christmas, my brother got the CD for him. My birthday is a little over a month later (2 February for those of you that wish to send me something special when it rolls around again ;) heh). I was awoken on my birthday with my dad in my room, at 5 am, blasting this song. Oi Vey. Each year, on my birthday (and on other special occasions for me), he wakes me up by playing it. He still does it.
As much as I claim to hate him playing it for me, I really don't-- I LOVE it. It's something special that my dad does to let me know how special I am to him. It's special to me because I DO mean so much to my dad. I've had lots of girl friends that don't have a really close relationship with their dad, and I am totally thankful that my dad and I are so tight.
It's become something of our (my dad's and my) theme song. He's made it that at least. This'll be the song that's played at my wedding for the "Father/daughter" dance.
What'd You say?
Here are a few of my favorite lines of lyrics:
-"There's two things I know for sure,
She was sent from heaven,
and she's daddy's little girl....."
-"Sweet sixteen today,
She's looking like her momma a little more each day........."
-"She'll change her name today,
She'll make a promise,
and I'll give her away.
Standing in the bride room just staring at her,
she asked me what I'm thinking and I just said, 'I'm not sure,
I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl...........
'Walk me down the aisle daddy, it's just about time'
'Does my wedding gown look pretty daddy?'
'Daddy, don't cry........"
I have this strange feeling that I'm going to be saying that to my dad when I get married next year. Everyone thinks he's a big tough man, but I know he'll not be so tough that day. hehe
-blush-
I'm not the best at writing sappy things for others to critique. And this is, I believe, my first attempt on writing something personal here. So, please keep that in mind and be gentle when rating it!
Wait, I'm not done!!!!
As I said, this review is part of a Write- Off. So please check out the other members participating in the "Most Meaningful Song" write- off. Thanks!
