denisewatson's Full Review: Lord of the Dance [Box] [Limited] by Original Soun...
About five years ago, there was a commercial on television, for a dance show called "Riverdance". Never having heard of the show before, I thought, "Riverdance? What in the world is 'Riverance'?", and dismissed it as just another ad. Then I tuned in to the Oscars, as I d every year to see who wins what and who wears what, and there was a dance number from "Riverdance". I was astounded by what I saw. I had two thoughts as I watched the dancers. One was, (as I looked at my feet,) "Why can't you guys do that?", and the other was, "Hello!!! Who ARE you?!?!", when I laid my eyes upon the lead male dancer who had curly blond hair. Oh! So THIS is what "Riverdance" is? O.k. I was interested in seeing more. When my local PBS station aired "Riverdance", I made sure to watch. As I watched the show, I again looked at my feet and said, "Nevermind." as I was amazed by the footwork of the dancers. That was also when I learned that the good looking blond lead male dancer name was Michael Flatley. Time passed, and one night, my local PBS station aired, "Lord of the Dance", which I (of course!) not only watched, but taped. Then in 1997, I was planing on visiting a friend who lived in San Francisco, but we hadn't decided on which dates I would be there. Then one day, I was over visiting with my parents, and they had the television on. I was in the middle of a conversation with my father, and I had my back turned towards the t.v., when a commercial came on, and the announcer said, "Michael Flatley's 'Lord of the Dance' will be at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium from June 25 until June 28." When I heard, "Michael Flatley's 'Lord of the Dance...", my head whipped around, and I was paying full attention to everything the announcer had to say. Suddenly, I knew when I was going to go down to San Francisco to visit my friend. I purchased two tickets for opening night. Finally, Wednesday June 25 came, and my friend and I found the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, and sitting outside of the building were three beautiful tour busses. I assumed that the one in front was the one that Michael rode in, and a part of me was wishing that I could sneak on the bus and just check it out, see what it was like on the inside. But, of course, I didn't do that. As my frend and I made our way around the outside of the building, we came across a plain, non discript door, that had two beefy, burly guards standing on either side of it. One of us siad to the other, "I don't think that's the entrance." The other agreed. I started to feel excited knowing that soon I was going to see this talented, attractive man, named Michael Flatley. I was excited knowing that I was in the same building as him. As my friend and I were waiting to go inside, I noticed that some people had cameras with them. I wondered why they did, since I knew that they wouldn't be allowed to take photographs durring the show. I bought my souvenirs, t-shirt, poster, program, and then my friend and I went in and took our seats. I was counting down the minutes until magic time, and was wondering what Michael was doing back stage. And as each minute passed, I became more and more excited. Finally, the lights went down, and the music started. The show was about to begin. As the dancers were dancing, my eyes frantically searched the stage for Michael. Then, suddenly, the music turned dramatic, and Michael leapt out on to the stage, from stage right, and the place just erupted in to screams. When I saw Michael on television, I thought he was attractive, but when I saw him on stage, I found him to be an Adonis. At the same time that I gasped at his attractiveness, he also took my breath away. I wanted to scream with everybody else, but I was aware that there were people sitting in front of me, that I figured would not appreciate my screaming in their ears, so, instead, I squealed. That was the moment that I fell in love with Michael. (As much as one person can fall for another human being that they've never met! LOL!) I remember that every time Michael took to the stage, the place would erupt with screams. I remember just being amazed by how fast all of the dancers were moving their feet in to these intricate steps. I remember watching Bernadette Flynn in "Breakout" and just feeling wowed by all of the talent on stage. Michael and the dancers just radiated so much positive energy. It was evident that Michael was in his element, and if he had any problems off of the stage, he sure as heck, didn't let it show. You could tell that Michael and the dancers were enjoying the show at least as much as we, the audience were. All too soon, the encors came. I forget how many they did, but everybody in the auditorium, was just screamin', just absolutly screamin' for more, more, more. I know that I, for one did not want the show to end. I wanted it to go on for another two hours. But, alas, the show ended, and the curtains closed, and the lights came up. My friend and I went outside, and proceeded to go home. It wasn't until after I got home from my trip that I learned that Michael usually meets with his fans after the show. SCREAM!!! But, I don't intend on making that mistake twice!
