JulieWahm's Full Review: Veggie Tunes 2 by VeggieTales
Veggie Tunes 2
This album contains songs from the VeggieTales videos: “Rack, Shack and Benny”, “Dave and the Giant Pickle” and “Josh and the Big Wall”. The total running time is almost 38 minutes. (This is almost double the length of the first album.)
As I mentioned in my review of the first, VeggieTunes album. the songs make more sense (not that all of them make any sense!) when preceded by the VeggieTales videos
Song List
1. The VeggieTales Theme Song.
The famous, “If you like to talk to tomatoes...” song once again starts off the album.
2. The Dance of the Cucumber.
This is part of the infamous “Silly Songs with Larry the part of the show where Larry comes out and sings a silly song.” This silly song is based on an Argentine folk song. Bob is singing in English while Larry translates into Spanish. There is no point to this song!
3. Good Morning George.
In this song we meet “Rack, Shack, and Benny”. (These guys represent Daniel’s contemporaries Shadrach, Meshach and Abednigo who refused to bow to the golden idol of Nebuchadnezzar.) In this story, the boys “work real hard in the chocolate factory”. We learn a little about their working conditions.
4. Think of Me.
Mom is encouraging her son to remember what she’s taught him.
5. The Bunny Song (reprise)
King Nezzar is demanding, in this song, that the boys sing “Bunny Song”. The “Bunny Song” (not on the album) promises allegiance to the big chocolate bunny. (“The bunny, the bunny, oh I love the bunny.”)
6. The New & Improved Bunny Song
The new song doesn’t worship the bunny, but talks about eating the bunny. And, too much of a good thing can make someone sick.
7. Stand
This song encourages us to “stand up for what you believe in”. Don’t allow other people to pressure you to do what you know is wrong.
8. Stand (reprise)
More of the same.
9. I love my Lips
This is another truly silly song. Larry the cucumber is visiting a Freud-type shrink and wonders what he’d do if his lips ever “left my mouth, packed a bag and headed south”. Dr. Archibald summarizes each of Larry’s tirades until time is up.
10. Big Things Too.
From the story of David and Goliath (aka “Giant Pickle”), Dave is explaining that Goliath is big, but God is bigger. With God’s help, “little guys can do big things too”.
11. The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything.
Again, a silly song about--you guessed it!--pirates who don’t do anything. They talk about all the things they haven’t done, and if you ask them to do anything, they’ll say “we don’t do anything.”
12. It’s Laura’s Fault.
After Junior is caught in a lie, he sings this song about how Laura did it. The story keeps growing.
13. Larry-Boy.
Larry-Boy is a Batman-type super hero who is out to protect Bumblyburg. This is his theme song. (“Lean and mean. Green Machine!”)
14. Promised Land.
This song introduces the story of Josh and the Big Wall (Jericho). The children of Israel are anxious to get to the “Promised Land”. (They are especially interested in the many food selections they expect to find there!)
15. The Lord has Given
Josh tells the people not to worry--God has already given the land to us.
16. Keep Walking.
The French Peas (from Jericho) are mocking the Israelites. “Keep walking” but the walls aren’t moving. “It’s plain to see your brains are very small if you think walking will be knocking down our wall.”
17. The Lord has Given (reprise)
This time Junior sings the song.
18. The Promised Land (reprise)
A shorter version of the song.
19. The Song of the Cebu
This is an extremely silly song with Larry. He’s showing a slide show aobut Cebus (“It’s kind of like a cow, see?”
20. What Have We Learned
This songs ends every episode. QWERTY (the computer) pulls up a Bible verse that goes along with the day’s story.
As I mentioned before, the songs are best if you’ve had the opportunity to watch the videos. But anyone with a sense of humor will enjoy them!
