JulieWahm's Full Review: Radio Disney: Kid Jams, Vol. 2 by Various Artists/...
Radio Disney Jams Volumne 2
I’ve already reviewed Radio Disney Jams (original). This one we bought for one song: “Disney’s Mambo #5”. We heard it on Radio Disney, and my son loved it! We searched for the album for weeks (the Disney Store couldn’t keep them in stock.) I have one other favorite song on the album: “The Saga Begins”, but more about that later.
This album was copyrighted 2000, and it is a mix of current music, oldies, and 4 special “New artist tracks”.
Song List
1. “Disney’s Mambo #5 (A little bit of...) by Lou Bega. This song is so much fun! “A little bit of Minnie in my life. A little bit of Mickey by her side...” I had never heard the original version, and I was a bit disappointed when I heard the song it came from. (It starts with a trip to the liquor store instead of the candy store, and the singer wants “a little bit” of several women.) Not quite Disney material.
2. “I’ll Never Break Your Heart” by Backstreet Boys. (Gotta have at least one from these guys! They are the only duplicate group on both albums.)
3. “Sodapop” by Brittany Spears. Another former Mouseketeer is added into the mix.
4. “I’ll be your everything” by Youngstown. This song is from Inspector Gadget.
5. “Just the Two of Us (Will Smith Rap)” by Will Smith.
6. “Reflection (from Mulan)” by Christina Aguilar. (The first album also had a Mulan song.)
7. “The Saga Begins” by Weird Al Yankovic. I used this with my second and third graders to show how to summarize a story. Weird Al takes the classic oldie “The Day the Music Died (aka American Pie” and tells the story of Star Wars, Episode 1. He does a great job of telling all the important things, and he only has to stretch to make the words fit once or twice. “Singing, My, my this here Anakin guy. Maybe Vader some day later, not he’s just a small fry...” This song is also available on his “Running with Scissors” album.
8. “Boogie Shoes” by KC and the Sunshine Band.
9. “True to Your Heart” (from Mulan) by 98 Degrees and Stevie Wonder. I guess they liked Mulan!
Then come four songs that EVERYONE knows:
10. “We will Rock You” by Queen. Stomp, stomp, clap, stomp, stomp clap, come on sing with me!
11. “We are the Champions” by Queen. There's no time for losin' with this song.
12. “We are Family” by Sister Sledge.
13. “YMCA” by Village People. This is everybody's favorite action song! My 2nd and 3rd graders loved to do the motions.
14. “Boom Da Boom” by Goldo.
The last four songs are listed as “New Artist Tracks”. Look for more music form these shining stars.
15. “One for Sorrow” by Steps.
16. “Girl You Shine” by Aaron Carter.
17. “Let’s Go” by I-8-Paste (Just Plain Mark and Zippy). These guys are Radio Disney Djs.
18. “Lovin’ You, Lovin’ Me.” by Jason Raize.
Overall, I think I prefer the first album, but the two songs I mention above (Mambo and The Saga) are worth purchasing the album.
